To Be Salt And Light?
It's not an easy question to answer.
I believe that, literally, to be salt of the earth means to preserve the earth... to preserve the Earth as God made it, beautiful, honest, filled with love and hope. As a Christian, I want to put out all of those things.. beauty and honesty, love and hope, preserving God's power on Earth, preserving the world as belonging to GOD, not to people or demons.
To be light in the world... We are supposed to be a shining example of God's love and truth. We are supposed to shine a light on God's work, and shine a light toward God. Shakespeare said "All the world is a stage, and all the men and women merely players". So what if God is the star of the show, and we, Christians, are the lighting technicians? We know where He is. We can see Him on stage, and we can see the work He is doing... but without our lights being on Him, nobody else can. It's just an empty stage.
So go... be salt and light in the world.... Preserve the love and truth, the beauty that God created, and shine your Light on Him, on His way, so that others may find Him too.

great new blog Kate.
It sometimes is hard to be a light to the world but I believe when we are doing what God calls us too and being a light to the world we are the happiest we can be this side of heaven.
I hope to see more posts on your blog. I will keep up. :) Keep in contact. P.S. I really respect your faith! Way to be strong in something. I find myself weak more often than not.
About coming to the US. ISn't if funny that you would love to come here and I would give anything to be able to live there for awhile. Grass is always greener I guess. I would have to say I was canadian. Seems everyone hates Americans and that makes me sad. Anyway this is a really long comment im sorry. HAHA I hope you keep on doing you blog. I will keep reading.

We can strive to shine our lights on God. Wherever we shine them, He will be.
I think we have to both be light sources and also reflections of God's light on us. God is so powerful, but ultimately it is up to us whether we simply absorb or deflect God's light or we bounce it back - thus revealing both the source and the nature of the light.
God is good, all the time.
